This is part of a song I wrote for someone who completely changed my life. I find great joy in writing songs and poetry as a customised gift for people close to me. Hour by hour, I wrote and tweaked lyrics at different times: at cafes, food courts and restaurants, on park benches, and at home. The process looked like this: brain dump of ideas and feelings → thematic grouping → writing rough lyrics → digging through the English language for words that hit the spot while accurately capturing my intention → re-reading and tweaking until I’m content with it → sent to the recipient. Writer’s block struck at certain points; I expected this.
